Photographer two - Marcuss Nilson

I have chosen this photographer due to the vast unique differences in all of his work. I have found that some of his work is positive and nice however one or two pieces of his work would come across as controversial. He also creates very simple yet intriguing photography that I would like to take influence from for my own personal project.

 This is an example of one of the photographs that has a happy positive feel towards food. It is natural and very bright and colourful. This photo uses quite bright lighting and shows the different features and imperfections of the chosen fruits. It also gives the audience an idea of the wide variety of citrus fruits available. In this photograph Marcuss has chose the compose the photo so that the background cannot be seen meaning the entire focus is on the fruit shown in the photograph.

Again this is an example of Marcuss's 'food porn' style of photograph with a positive feel to it. It feature foods that are commonly known to go well together and the contrast of natural healthy foods and chocolate which is seen as a treat food makes this an interesting photograph. The foods are scattered centrally so its clear that they are the main focus of the photograph. The background is a surface that could possibly be a work surface for a chef as appose to a studio background as this gives the audience a more all round view of food photography.

 This is an example of Nilsons work which I think would be seen as controversial. Unlike normal food photography this photograph does not really entice the audience as it shows the food in its natural form before it has been prepared. This does however allow the audience to get a more realistic view of the food they are eating but could be seen as offensive to a vegetarian or the like.

 In this photograph the pigs trotters and ears, parts not typically used in catering are shown in the photo with ingredients such as onion and garlic. This could be illustrating the current news portrayal of food in how that it is all being processed and bad foods are being used such as the horse meat scandal. This photo also illiterates and reminds the audience that also of the food they are eating are real living things which by the time you buy it the shop it is unlikely that you would be able to tell this.

Influence - I would like to take his controversial ways of photographing raw meat and use it in my own work in order to illustrate what is being eaten instead of trying my best to make the food look appalling whilst remaining to have an attractive photograph.
This photograph shows how I have taken influence from this photographers work because I have chosen to use maggots to show that there is not just a positive and attractive side to food as this photographer has shown with the dead animals. The lighting in the photographers work is also quite dull except on the subject itself which is shown in my photograph too.

Summary - Overall this photographers work is not particularly pleasing to the eye however his composition makes the photos more attractive considering what they are of.
